This is my first rotary cutter. I am so impressed with the ease and comfort of this cutter. So far I have only experimented with this rotary cutter but I really like it so far. It cuts through several layers of fabric and paper with ease. I have finally decided to buy a rotary cutter because I often have pain in my hand from over use (mostly from using scissors).

It has a spring-action design that automatically guards the blade after every cut. There is also a two position safety lock so that you can keep the blade exposed during cutting and lock the guard over the blade during storage. The lock is located on the top of the handle, near the blade. You only have to extend your thumb forward to lock and backward to unlock. You do have to squeeze it like scissors to expose the blade but once it's open you can just lock it in the open position.

Replacing the blade is very fast and easy and accommodates Fiskars straight and decorative blades, which are great for paper craft projects. It fits very nicely and comfortably in my hand. I also really like the fact that it can be used by and left-handed or right-handed person.
