| Description: |
14.5 oz raw selvage sanforized denim. Sanforized meaning unwashed basically, and 14.5 oz meaning it weighs 14.5 oz per yard. The higher the number the thicker the denim. Selvaged means that the edges are clean finished and the threads woven continually back into the fabric. During mid-century, looms in America were used to make the denim that made the jeans. As America found more efficient and lucrative ways to create denim, American looms soon became obsolete and were sold off to Japan. Well now denim made on these American looms are strongly desired by "denim heads" and those in the know, so now buying denim of this type made on these looms in Japan cost us a pretty penny. Also available in other oz and sanforized/unsanforized. |
| Tips: |
READ READ READ!! Research denim. It is an amazing fabric. Go to the garment district in LA to find RAW DENIM, also it can be found on EBAY if you search hard and are lucky. |
| Techniques: |
Heavy duty needles (for denim or leather), thicker weight thread for denim topstitching and a heavy duty machine capable of handling several layers of heavyweight denim. Hemming: use a hammer to soften the denim prior to hemming jeans. Use hammer for flatfelling as well. Chainstitching is best on hems. Denim jeans age better if laundering is held off as long as possible. Rule of thumb is wait a year before first wash. |
