Pattern Sizing:
36-44 (I cut a size 40) The sleeves on this pattern are quite long, i didn't alter them at all and I'm tall (5'10.5"). Someone shorter would definitely need to check the sleeve length before cutting.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions are in Dutch so I didn't use them.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked the shaped hem lining and darts on the sleeves plus all the topstitching. It's a really nice fleece jacket - much smarter than the ol' zip up tracksuit style I keep thinking this type of fabric is intended for. My only dislike is the pocket placement as my middle doesn't need the highlighting.
Fabric Used:
Some tracksuit fleece I'd had hanging around in my stash for a couple of years. (And couldn't believe Spotlight still had it when I needed just a little bit more!)
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Square shoulder adjustment - I'm glad I did as I'm loving the fit in the shoulders. It feels perfect.
The bust darts were too low and ended in a funny poof. I sewed the darts higher but still have somewhat of a funny poof.
The jacket was too big around my middle (I have this problem with all tops so should have foreseen this!) so i took in the side seams where I could and enlarged the darts somewhat. I wish I'd noticed while I was sewing but for some reason everytime I tried it on, I thought the bottom hems were meant to meet... I should have spent a bit more time looking at the pattern diagram! The jacket really needed to be taken in down the center back but I didn't want to lose the nicely curved shaping.
I don't quite get Knipmode's layout drawings as the hem lining piece wasn't shown in the cutting layout. Perhaps it's meant to just be a stitched design line and not added as a separate piece...?
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would like to sew this pattern again... Next time I'll alter the pattern from the armholes down to fit better and will remember to add the tab to the side seams.
Conclusion:
I think most of the problems I had with this jacket were due to trying to fit into one size as drafted and i should know better by know and I was rushing it as I have such little time to sew. And, I was fed up with it after goofing a collar and having to recut - I'd never sewn a lapel before. Then I tried press studs instead of buttons which ripped out (duh, why did I punch the holes so big and why didn't I interface?!). My laziness made it a lot more work than it needed to be. Lesson learnt (I hope!)

Since starting writing this review, I've worn the jacket. The armholes are a bit too low for me and it causes the sleeve length to ride right up when I reach - annoying as it makes the sleeves look like they're too short. And, the sleeve hem bands are too sloppy. I'll make them narrower next time. It was comfortable and I picked up a few compliments though so I'll definitely make another version (the compliments may have been due to the colour as I usually spend a lot of time wearing black )

Rebecca D 11/5/09In spite of all the setbacks, this turned out beautifully and I think the fit is just fine. It doesn't look too big at all.

Bunsnpigs 11/5/09It IS beautiful. I think not sewing the pockets was also a great idea.

mikkim 11/5/09Lovely jacket--I can't believe it's made from fleece--amazing! Now I'm going to have to check to see if I have this issue.

lakaribane 11/5/09The colour is really cute and that is one hell of a fleece jacket! I've got a KnipMode dress in the To Be Sewn pile and, being 5', I got a feeling it's goign to be fun, LOL! Still, glad a Tall girl like you found her bliss with KM.

yorkshire lass 11/6/09I can't believe that is made from fleece. Its such a wonderful jacket on you. I'm sorry about all the setbacks but I do think its worth another go, and I thought the fit looked really good. The fit was what made it leap off the gallery page at me.

Barbara V 11/7/09I can imagine the comfort in wearing your fleece jacket. You achieved such a great fit. Very pretty!

LeahT 11/9/09Thanks all for your lovely comments! I'm so glad that I persisted in finishing the jacket and it is wonderfully comfortable to wear. I'm sure I'll make one or two more as it's not only easy to wear but easy to just throw in the washing machine and dryer for laundering - gotta love that no fuss fleecy! I won't be in a hurry to make it again though as we're coming into hot weather here in Australia.
