This is my 4th piece for the Wardrobe contest. I had originally thought about using Burda's free Coffee Date Dress pattern, but then I saw this for a whole 99 cents at JoAnn's. It's pretty much the same thing, and I always prefer to have a proper pattern I don't have to grade or resize or anything. Here's a pic of the whole top, sorry for the grainyness (here's the whole shot -- a little less grainy, a little more messy bedroom)

Pattern Description:
A simple pullover blouse with a ruffle in front. I made View C.

Pattern Sizing:
Size 12 grading to 14 at the waist and hips.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow?
I didn't actually read them since there are only a couple of pieces to this top. Looking at them now they look pretty easy though.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I loved how easy it was and how quickly it came together.

Fabric Used:
A poly chiffon that's on the clearance rack at every JoAnn's I've been at recently (there's one in a lovely greyish-blue too). The mauve and silver polka dots could have been a little over the top, but I myself am a little over the top. Hi-yoooooooooooooo!

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I liked the pattern, but wanted more of a ruffle. The pattern piece is rather wide and not very long, so I cut it in half to double the length and make the ruffle thinner. Detailed shots of the ruffle are here and here.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes to both!

RachelEsq 11/4/09I LOVE this. What a stand-out, but very wearble-looking top. I like the color, and how you made even more ruffles. Was the neckline binding easy to attach?

Re Becca 11/4/09That looks so stunning on you! the ruffle is just perfect. Is that what passes for a messy room at your house?

HawkeMorningStar7 11/5/09Really beautiful top, love the ruffles. How did you edge finish so beautifully their hems?

FullertonRegan 11/5/09Squee! Thanks all you lovely commenters!! RachelEsq, the pattern itself gives instructions for a French Binding, which I would have used anyway. I actually prefer the technique as described in Claire Schaffer's "High Fashion Sewing Secrets" (which I have checked out perpetually from my local library). She give a little more detail than this pattern (namely, hand basting the bias tape down once it's attached and then stitching in the ditch vs. pinning it and stitching in the ditch -- small nuance, but made all the difference in the world to me and my skill level), and I always like that. I think it's super easy, and I am not a fan of binding. HawkeMorningStar7 - The ruffle piece is folded in half lengthwise and then attached, so the edge you see is the folded edge. I didn't finish the raw edge that's attached to the shirt, so who knows what'll happen when this goes in the wash, lol! I can send you some more pictures if you still have questions. :)
