| Pattern Description: These are knit wrap around pants.
Pattern Sizing: 34 to 44
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Pretty much. I used a thicker sweatshirt weight fabric so the pants don't have as much of a fluid drape to them and on me the wrap around wraps around a bit more. My version is reminds me of sarouel pants (also feature in this issue), or some other kind of desert/ bedouin pants.
Were the instructions easy to follow?hah! No. But after I figured out how to put the pants together I read the directions and was able to crack the Burda code and they made some sense. The first three steps are pretty straight forward, step four gets tricky.
Burda: "Take open edges of waistband together, from marking, and slip between upper edges of front trouser pieces, from corner (seam number 1) to marked stitching line. Stitch upper edger of trousers together from corner to marked stitching line. . ." ???????????????????????
Here's my translation:
After you sew the tie part of the "right tie end" (that's the 10 1/4 inches you've just closed up along with the edge), you've clipped to the seam at that 10 1/4" mark, trimmed, and turn right side out. . .. right? Ok so now you have an open lengthwise edge that overhangs the finished edge by your seam allowance (5/8"). I'd start by basting this edge shut and pressing. Now you line this basted side up to the top edge of the pants (between the right sides that are together) and PUT THE TIE END TOWARDS THE RIGHT SEAM (seam 1). Stitch from seam one until you reach the marked line on the pattern. (this is the line when you're tracing the right panel of the pants that cuts off the overlap and would make them into regular sweat pants-- another option with this pattern I suppose). Tadaa! Now when you turn the right sideof the pants right side out you'll have a nice finished tie hanging off the triangle!!
Did that make any more sense?? The construction of these pants is easier when you spend your time trying to figure IT out rather than the directions.
If you get this step in correctly the rest of the steps follow nicely and make sense.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? These are very nice casually sophisticated pants. Or just a nice pair of yoga pants. Very comfy. The front wrap around it exotic and stylish.
Fabric Used: I used a sweatshirt weight knit.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn't change a thing on the pattern. I found the sizing perfect. Maybe a little loose if you wanted to wear at the waist but they look better at the hip and you can tie the wrap around part a bit tighter.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I'd sew this pattern again, and I highly recommend it.
Conclusion: I hope my review helps a bit with the tricky instructions! This is my first pattern review. ;) I'll post a picture as soon as I hem them (I hate that part!) Ciao!
