| Pattern Description:
Vintage Vogue Pattern 1023 Jacket
Pattern Sizing:
Misses
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes and this is something, since this was the first jacket I've ever made.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, however, you must know your handsewing stitches.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I loved the styling and the sleeves. I was surprised by the amount of handstitching needed - padstitching, catstitching and slipstitching. I was unfamiliar with padstitching and did not quite get it right...
Fabric Used:
Lovely camelhair wool which had a pattern on one side and a smooth look on the other. It was challenging material, because it was so thick, but quite beautiful and forgiving.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
The alterations needed was for the facing buttonholes; could not fold down due to material thickness, so just stitched the raw edges.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will sew this again, after I lose weight. :D
Conclusion:
You must be comfortable handstitching (padstitching, catstitching, slipstitching) and the pattern takes patience. Nothing is going to get done fast. The sleeve is not set-in, but it has a gusset that was a challenge. BASTE where the pattern says to baste, because it usually said to baste in challenging areas such as the set-in pockets and collar, so you may need to re-do these areas (I did) before putting in the permanent stitches. The bound buttonholes were not bad, because I used Shannon Gifford's technique of using freezer paper as a template. I love the results and I can't wait to start wearing the jacket.
