Pattern Description: Lined, fitted coat in various lengths, has raised waistline with back princess seams and pleat, front button closing. A,C, D, E: side seam pockets. A,D, E: back tab. C, D, E: optional snaps at lower front opening. E: sleeve tabs.

Pattern Sizing: 8 - 22. I made the coat for my sister in a straight size 8. I made view C with the length of view B.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes the instructions were very easy to follow, though I strayed from their instructions a bit to incorporate some slight construction changes, such as bound button holes.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I love the peter-pan collar

empire waist line

and the back pleat.

Oh and it has sneaky little pockets which I love!

There was really nothing I didn't like about the pattern, except that I'm not the biggest fan of one piece long sleeves. Luckily they fit Angeline (my sister) really well so it wasn't a problem.

Fabric Used: I used a stunning wool/cashmere blend from Tessuti fabrics and a silk/cotton blend fabric for the lining. The lining I ordered from Spoonflower, the design by the very clever HeidiKenny

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I omitted the shoulder pads and gave bound button holes a try for the first time. I LOVE the result! They take longer to put together and there is a lot of concentration involved, but it's so worth it.

I also added a little pleat in the corners of the lining hem to allow for extra movement.

I didn't have quite enough of the lining fabric to make the whole coat, so I made the bulk of the sleeves in a silk satin (they are hidden anyway!) and used the lining fabric for the cuff of the sleeves. That way if the sleeves are rolled up, you still see the cool lining fabric.

By a stroke of luck, I managed to get the fruit line up on the box pleat of the lining. How freaking cool is that!

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? This is actually the second time I've made this pattern. I previously made it in a size 12-14 in a pea-green. I made it over a year ago and the difference in quality between this new coat and my old one is quite noticable. It's nice to see I've learnt some things over the past year! Here's my old review with a different collar and regular button holes.

I definitely recommend making this coat!

Conclusion: This coat was inspired by the hot pink coat worn by the character Jess, played by Zooey Deschanel in the TV series 'New Girl'. Both my sister and I fell in love with it and thought this pattern would serve for a good imitation. I love how it turned out!
