Pattern Description:
Reversible cross-over dress for girls
From their website/etsy shop (Sydney Australia):
The Criss-Cross Reversible Dress is an elegant cross-over (or wrap dress) with beautiful lines that is a breeze to make and so easy for your little girl to wear. There are no buttons, zips or other tricky details. Just two sets of ties or ribbons sewn into the side seams will secure the dress and make it easily reversible, giving you two looks from the one garment.
The (optional) neckline bands provide added sophistication and an opportunity to showcase an additional fabric print. You can also add some sweet flower appliqués to the reverse of the dress using the supplied templates.
For a quick and easy option make the dress without the neckline bands and appliqué by simply using 2 different prints for the front and reverse/lining.
The professionally designed PDF sewing pattern includes an easy to follow photo tutorial and full size colour coded pattern pieces.
FABRIC REQUIREMENTS:
For both the outer dress and the lining you will need:
1.2 metres (47 inches) for the Sizes 1-3
1.4 metres (55 inches) for the Sizes 4-6
An additional 25cms (10 inches) of fabric in your lining print if you want to include the optional neckline bands.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes! Photo Set Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions are very detailed and correct. She makes specific references to pattern pieces and leaves nothing to guess work, as far as I could see.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like that this is a very simple classic dress to make and that it was from an Australian shop. I enjoy purchasing patterns from people around the world and the cultural breath of fresh air that comes with each independant pattern and it's instructions
This is particularly true when the pattern is impeccably drafted!
Fabric Used:
Purple cotton velveteen and baby corduroy with a vivid print.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I scaled the pattern to 90% so that it would fit a smaller baby than 1yr old. This was just to see and play around with it.
I also scaled one to 75% but it seemed very small, perhaps 6mos.
The 90% was just right. The child I am sewing for seems to be in the 6-12 mos range right now.
I used the contrast neck bands and the applique flowers using snaps for the closures rather than ties or buttons on the applique.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, there is no reason to hesitate to buy this pattern. It's nicely drafted and inexpensive to buy (comparatively at $9.95), as well as green.
I printed the pattern out on recycled paper and just the pages I wanted. Also, don't forget to print two copies of the pages including the back, because the pattern is overlayed with the front and back pieces overlapping.
Conclusion:
This makes a nice gift! If you haven't tried pdf patterns, some of these are just amazingly well done
