Pattern Description:
Child's and girls' one-piece dress with two bodices and one jacket. The sleeveless dress has a fitted bodice, gathered skirt, and back button closing. The lined box jacket has short kimono style sleeves.

This is a 1950s/ 60s child's pattern.

Pattern Sizing:
Size 6

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, although (on request) I omitted the sweet patch pockets illustrated on the envelope drawings. You can see a picture of a size 8 version of the pattern here, a full length front view of dress and jacket here and here, jacket worn floral side out here, and a full length view of the dress back here.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were fine, with helpful line drawings, but interestingly make no mention of interfacing... I think the dress at least needs interfacing along the button back, if not for the entire facings too.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
This is a really sweet design for a young girl. The dress is a lovely shape - darts front and back give the bodice shape, and the button back has a slightly formal look. The little jacket, also fitted with front and back darts, makes the outfit quite dressy. I love that the jacket is reservible - as it turns out, one side is my preference and the other is my daughter's .

Fabric Used:
For the dress and the inside of the jacket I used a light cotton voile. For the outside of the jacket I used a coordinating colour of midweight linen. I finished up with sweet vintage buttons down the back.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Well first up I didn't use vintage seam finishes - I serged the seam edges. Secondly I added an interfaced waistband between the bodice and skirt because when my daughter tried on the bodice it was a little short. I had assumed it would fit based on having made this dress a year ago and it then being too long! Thirdly, as mentioned above, I left off the patch pockets - this because my daughter has a tendency to catch sand in her pockets from the sandpit. And finally I added some hand stitching to tack facings to side seams because I hate when facings creep out of necklines or arm holes.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I particularly like the little jacket in this pattern, and I may well make it again. If I make the dress again (which I may do) I'll probably add short sleeves and lengthen the bodice.

Conclusion:
A sweet pattern that makes the kind of outfit 5 year old girls adore!
