Pattern Description: Girls Dress, Top, Shorts and Bolero. I made the top

Pattern Sizing: Available in 8-16, and plus sizes 8.5 - 16.5. I made size 10, but cut the length to a size 16

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Very similar, yes. My bodice is not gathered, as shown in the pattern...see 'design changes'.

Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions are step by step with illustrations and are very easy to follow. I didn't notice any errors as I was putting this shirt together.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Overall the pattern is good. My one complaint is that the straps are "adjustable". It apparently means something different to me than it did to the pattern maker. I was expecting straps that I could adjust as my daughter got older, so she could wear it longer. The "adjustable" this pattern means is cut the straps extra long, thus wasting fabric, and try the top on. Then adjust the length of the strap to the girl wearing it, pin and sew, so it is a custom fit.

Another issue that I had with this pattern is that when you adjust the straps and sew them on, the ends of the straps are left exposed on the inside of the top. Now, my DD is very sensitive to anything rubbing her skin, so I knew this would be an aggravation to her...see 'design changes' for my fix.

Fabric Used: A beautifully marbled cotton in purple and turquoise. Apparently I wasn't thinking when I cut this shirt out. I had originally intended all the layers to be of that fabric. But, I cut only one of each ruffle layer, when the pattern clearly says to cut two. Because of my design alteration to fix the exposed straps I ended up without enough fabric to cut two more ruffles.

Enter the next two fabrics, all cotton. The turquoise for the first ruffle has a subtle marbling and tiny leaves in a dark turquoise. The purple fabric has swirls.

I think in the end, the use of three fabrics that coordinate turned out much better than if I had only used one.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

First design change: I cut each ruffle to a length of size 16. This is just for modesty issues. I didn't want her belly showing when she stretches her arms up.

Second design change: The bodice was too big when we first tried it on, with extra fabric under her arms, so I cut an inch off the sides, which resulted in 2" less under each arm. When I went to attach the ruffled layers to the bodice they were the same size, so I didn't need to gather the bodice to fit the ruffles.

Third design change: To fix the strap issue I cut another back section and encased the straps so they won't rub on skin. I tucked the elastic in and stretched the shirt as I sewed a seam under the elastic. Then sewed the sides together and serged inside for a finished seam.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

I would sew it again, with the same modifications as this version. I think the finished garment is lovely, and so does my rather picky girl!

P.S. Sorry about the poor picture quality...I'll try to take another!
