| This is a review for the One Pattern Many Looks contest (2013). I actually started fresh w/ a new printout of the Sorbetto. I also used the simple (kimono) sleeve band tutorial from Gertie's Blog for Better Sewing for the first 2 on this round.
I shortened the darts by 1" (as most reviews suggest), but left the length alone, as I am very short waisted.
First up, the "variation" was to invert the pleat (I actually did this by accident the very first time I tried to sew this pattern!), and only sew it for the first few inches. I also used contrasting "binding" from my stash that may have originally intended for a quilt edge. (My actual original use was actually for a self-drafted saddle pad, but that's a whole other review, lol.)
I attached 2 buttons (sewn on together as one embellishment) near the midpoint of the pleat. I'm very happy w/ this version. The reverse pleat will be great for summer versions of this top. Closeup of buttons
Second variation was done in white pin-dot on black. Lengthened the sleeves slightly and added a peter pan collar in black. But the major change was that I changed the pleat to pin tucks. Still considering adding buttons down the front. Closeup of Collar and Pintucks
Third variation was a straight version of the pattern (except the arm bias tape was sewn to the inside) done in a Christmas fabric. Since I live in TX, and usually spend Christmas w/ family in AZ, this is not as odd as it seems to those of you buried in snow right now. Closeup of Christmas Fabric
After seeing the photos, I like the "sleeves" even less. I'll probably leave the green one alone, but may change the black. I still have plenty of the fabric left for "real" sleeves. Just not the time to do it for this contest, lol. |
