| Pattern Description:
Misses’ Skirts, each in two lengths. I chose view C
Pattern Sizing:
12-20, I cut size 14
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
I made this for the One Pattern Many Looks contest so I did make some changes
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I think this pattern is a really flattering shape; I was a bit worried the front tucks might give the impression of a bit of a belly but the yoke shape prevents this. I think it’s a really versatile pattern.
Version 1 front back
Fabric Used: Navy cotton denim with 3% elastaine, humming bird print cotton for the lining and pockets.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: To account for my low flat rear I performed my patented bum deal alteration, omitted the back darts; took a 2cm wedge out the back; lowered the back waistline from 0 as the side seam to -2 at the centre back.
For a more fitted silhouette I skimmed .5cm off the side seams at the hips and pegged off to 2.5cm at the hem
Hard to explain but my pattern piece ended up looking like this it may not be pretty but it does the job.
Version 2 front back
Fabric Used: Cream cotton with navy woven stripe and anchor print, china silk, jumbo cord piping
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Fitting changes as above. I noticed on version 1 there was still a bit of extra fabric at the back under the yoke so shaved an extra 1cm from the top of the skirt waist line.
I piped the bottom of the yoke and pockets with jumbo cord piping which looks like rope ;)
As I challenged myself to use only items in my stash and didn’t have any zippers long enough I created a tab on the yoke to act as an under lap and added trouser slides to fasteners.
I lined the skirt with china silk following Sunnis’ kick arse tutorial
Version 3 front back
Fabric Used: Almost black twill poly suiting, maroon poly lining
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Fitting changes as above. Underlap and trouser slides and lining as above.
I changed the shape of the pockets to be more scooped out and created a false button placket to the waistband. I added covered buttons to the waistband and round the pockets.
Version 4 front back
Fabric Used: Navy poly cotton twill, maroon poly lining
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Fitting changes as above. Underlap and trouser slides and lining as above.
I kept the pocket shape from version 3 and added lines of ric rac round the pockets and the top and bottom of the yoke (I hand stitched, it took forever)
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others
I really recommend this pattern, it goes together pretty quickly and the instructions are easy to follow.
I would definitely sew this pattern again, I have version 5 already cut out in silk backed dupion but ran out of time to get it together for this contest.
I also think this would look great in a red tartan wool, I have some in my stash which I think I might sew next winter.
Conclusion
I’m really happy with how each of these skirts turned out, I think that event though they are the same pattern I think each is different enough to work in my wardrobe.
Im also pleased that rose to the challenge I set myself to use only items already in my stash, in my mind I have 4 new skirts for 'free'

I think you should get extra points for tailoring this skirt to fit so perfectly - maybe that's another contest... Amazing work and excellent entry. Good luck!

These are great and you've created 4 really different looks. I love the dress look of the two on the right, i really couldn't tell if these were dresses or skirts till i read the review. Well done!

I just love all your skirts and it's just great that you were able to fix your bum issue so cleverly. I have that same issue and hope to get it fixed with the help of my new Sure Fit designs kits. Your drawings are very professional and you did a beautiful and creative job on your skirts. Good luck in the contests, but even if you don't win , you've won already with four great, well-fitting skirts that suit you to a t.
