|Pattern Description: Boys pants and shorts.|
Pattern Sizing: I made a size 7 even though according to his waist he should wear a size 5. The size 7 was the smallest size on the pattern. The waist was really big but since it is adjustable waist it didn't really matter but the length is exact, which doesn't really leave room to grow.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow? No, I had difficulty understanding the instructions when it came to the fly, even though I know how to do a fly these instructions were difficult to follow.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like that this pattern has an adjustable waist, but now that I have made it I don't think I like how they did the adjustable waist. The construction was a little backwards if you want to sew these like jeans. I wanted to do top-stitching on the inseam like rtw but since I followed the instructions without thinking it through I could not. You sew the outseam first then the inseam which make it impossible to do top-stitching. I also installed the zipper before realizing I wanted to top-stitch the crotch seam but couldn't do so because then the zipper was in the way.
Fabric Used: Stretch Denim that is cotton with some Lycra.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I decided not to add the tabs. I was going to add the cargo pockets from the shorts but the pockets were so small it was comical so I didn't add them. I did add a pocket yoke facing which was not included because the pocket bag was suppose to be made of the same fabric and I didn't want to do this. I sewed on patch pockets on the back instead of doing the slit pockets. I added a stud button to the front but it's just for looks, it still has the hook inside, like my son prefers.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Probably not.
Conclusion: This pattern was not a good pattern to use if I wanted traditional looking jeans. The instructions were hard to follow. The design is nice but it's just not a pattern for me.
