|Pattern Description: (From the website): |
With flattering and comfortable dolman sleeves, the Seafarer Top will become an anchor in your wardrobe! Made out of soft knit fabric, you'll find yourself wearing it again and again. New to sewing with knits? This is a great project to start with!
Pattern Sizing: Womens XS to XXL. XXL measurements are Bust - 44-46", Waist - 36-38", Hip - 46-48"
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes pretty much (except for differences in fabric and model figure!)
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy peasy. Highly recommend for someone new to sewing knits- pretty much fool proof sewing!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the simple design, the combination of woven and knit fabric and the different variations that can be had with/without use of neck + arm bands.
Fabric Used: For the brightly coloured art-deco stylised floral top : a fairly good quality (not super thin) cotton/lycra knit with a satin scrap for the pocket. For the grey cherry blossum top (with arm bands) a thinner cotton/lycra (I think!) Italian knit fabric, with a salvaged scrap of cotton/silk blend woven from a RTW top (more pics here on my blog).
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: First top (bright floral) I didn't have enough fabric so ended up taking 2cm off total from the centre back, and I sewed the shoulder seams at 5/8 " instead of 3/8". Luckily enough this worked really well for my figure and is now my preferred pattern draft! They grey cherry blossum was sewn according to proper seam allowances, the neckline has stretched due to the very thin strechy knit I used for this version. Also the pattern has since been revised to take a little out of the neckline/shoulder seamlines to avoid this occurring. I was a tester for this pattern so my tops were made pre-revision.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes and YES! I love this top, its so easy to whip up and I wear these two all the time . I was wondering about adding long sleeves and now another reviewer has already done so I'm eager to give it a try!
Conclusion: Highly recommend this pattern, I think its a clear winner!
