|Pattern Description: This is a nightgown from a pattern book, "Beautiful Lingerie" from Kwik Sew's Kirsten Martensson. It features a number of sleepwear and undergarments. This is gown B. I've had this book for years and never made anything from it. There are lots of potential variations from the basic master patterns. |
Pattern Sizing: XS to XL. The ease is very generous. I used XL, which is too large-L would be better.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. The book also has helpful tips about sewing with lingerie fabrics, lace and elastic.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It ended up way too wide and I reduced each side seam by an inch. (It would be nice to have the final measurements of the garments.) Otherwise, looks great and was easy to sew and comfortable. The style of the garments is a bit old-fashioned (for example, I don't like the gathered wrists on the long-sleeved gowns) but it's not difficult to alter the features you don't like.
Fabric Used: An ugly beige/black/pink cotton lawn in my stash, ordered from FashionFabricClub, not sure how I ended up with it. Looking for a way to get rid of it, with no fashion consequence, hence the nightie.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Reduced width. Used the serger and high differential feed to gather the front/back pieces.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes. Thinking about making one for my sister in a more luxurious fabric.
Conclusion: This is a collection of basic master patterns for construction of sleepwear and undergarments (slips, teddies, camisoles, nightgowns and robes).
