Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Not on me. This was one of those "I know better but I'll try it anyway" patterns. I looked up the previous reviews and mine did not look anything like they did. Some were really cute. But I guess you have to have the body. . . . .Anyway the neck was way too big. . . I knew I should have cut it down a couple of sizes, and the drop shoulder just isn't my style. If I'd made the caftan sleeves, they probably would have extended at least 6 inches past my fingertips. As it is, the armholes were at my elbows. I wanted something that was really loose for beach wear even if I made the dress version. It ended up just above my ankles. It will serve it's purpose but I won't be making it again. Besides, how many beach dresses do I need in bright orange with little yellow flowers.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. I should have done the neck opening my way -- instead of using bias tape and turning it to the inside, I should have turned it to the outside and topstitched. Also, the neckline should have been interfaced because it did stretch out a little at the "v". If I ever make this again, I will go down 2-3 sizes in the neck and shoulders and shorten the dress about 8 inches, at least.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It was very easy and quick -- only two pattern pieces. Just not a style that looks good on me. Too much middle.
Fabric Used: Quilting cotton that I've had in my stash for over 5 years.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Probably not. I didn't like the finished dress but it looked cute on one of the other reviewers.
Conclusion: I'll try my suggestions above. I ended up altering this the quick, easy, not recommended way since we were getting ready to leave on vacation -- I took in the shoulders about 1-1/2 inches (total 3 inches!) and it fits so much better. Not very neat, but it worked in a hurry. I then serged off the excess and stitched along the shoulder seams. Much better. Was going to make another one this week but have misplaced one of the pattern pieces in the Pattern Stash rush. This fabric has been in my stash for at least 5 years.
