Pattern Description: Front looks like a simple flair skirt, back with bustle style. Front and back have 6 panels. Waist sits on natural waist or slightly higher. The narrow waist line and the volume of the back side make the wearer look high-waist. The default method for the bustle is to stitch marks but you may also add buttons to adjust the bustle or leave the tale as train.
Pattern Sizing: I sewed a Japanese size 11. For the sizing table click here I'm normally around a 12 in Vogue or a 38/40 in Burda.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes. Exactly. Back Front
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. The instructions are in English and they are extremely well written and organised. It even gave instructions for which of the raw edges needed finishing before you starting sewing. There was a good mix a diagrams and instructions. Please note though - the instructions are set out differently to the Big 4.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? No dislikes. Love the interesting bustle at the back. Had hesitations about the wide waistband but it turned out to be quite comfortable and balanced the design of the skirt. Another big thumbs up was that this download is layered so although you get all of the sizes, you can set it up before you print it so that only one size gets printed.
Fabric Used: A mystery fabric that was a gift from a sewing friend. It looks like a woven wool but is actually a woven polyester blend. The pattern recommends fabric with a bit a spring to it so it doesn't crush at the back with sitting down.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: No design alterations but I made the waist slightly larger by adding 1.5cm graduating to nothing by the hips at the side seams. I expected to do this because my waist measurement was just a bit larger that listed on the pattern.
I sewed the bustle up with hand stitches. Options are given to use buttons or snaps.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I'm going to be sewing this again. While it is a distinctive design, it's really easy and comfortable to wear. I'll probably make another winter weight one and a couple of summer weight ones. Yes I'd recommend it to others!
Conclusion: Love it. Easy and a little bit quirky.
Edited to add: It is very comfortable to sit down in. The photos were taken after I'd been out to lunch. Not sure how comfortable it would be if buttons or snaps were used instead of hand stitches.
