|This is the second time I've made this pattern, but I'm doing a separate review for two reasons: (1) For clarity in the stash contest, because this one is entered but the previous one was done in May; (2) to illustrate the magick of the Full-Bust Adjustment.|
Simple dress with cut-on cap sleeves, center front and center back seam, and sweetheart neckline; ankle or knee length.
Plus - 20 - 34
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
It looked remarkably like the illustration on the envelope. The only differences were attributable to the fact that I'm shorter and fatter than the model.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I didn't actually look at the instructions.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked how incredibly easy it was, and how good it looks on. The line drawing looks like it should be a sack, but on a human body it looks good! The only thing I have that resembles a complaint is that the neckline is a bit low for my comfort - this version #2 it sits a bit nicer.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
For the first dress I Cut a size 24 through the bust, then tapered out to a 28 at the waist/hips. For this one, I cut a 22 for the whole back, and for the front through the bust, then tapering out to a 26 at the waist/hip. I added a 1" FBA, which means tha tfrom the bust down, the circumference of this dress at any given point, would tbe the same as the circumference of the previous dress, just that more of it is in front. And from the bust up, the fit is a bit slimmer, making the low neckline fit smoother and tighter, so it feels a bit less risque. Here's a side by side comparison of the two necklines: This Dress The previous dress
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
This is the second time I've made it, and I'm thinking I'll make at least one more. I would recommend this dress to anybody needing a versatile summer dress, who wants to let the fabric speak for itself rather than fuss with fiddly details. This would be a great first or second dress for a beginner.
Highly recommend. Both flattering and super-easy.
