|Pattern Description: This is a simple waisted sheath dress, short sleeve or sleeveless, V or scoop neck. Princess seams in bodice front, lengthwise darts in back. As an Amazing Fit Pattern, it has ABCD bust size variations plus extra large seam allowances for critical areas. The pattern instructions include fitting tips. A best of 2010 pattern. I made view C, V-neck and sleeveless. |
Pattern Sizing: 6-24. I used an 18D bust and graded to 20 at waist, back to 18 at hips
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Very much so. An LBD, except really a dark navy.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Good instructions.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Makes fitting easy. Looks very classy when made up. I really like the V-neckline, not too deep. Because it fits perfectly, it's also very comfortable to wear. I may have to try others in the Amazing Fit series.
It should be quite easy to modify the pattern to have more of a full skirt, if that is something that appeals to you. In fact, you could use this as a fitting shell for drafting a number of different garments.
I should say, that even though I am experienced with fitting, I needed the 1 inch seam allowances at the sides. (I had preserged the fabric pieces and forgot to compensate for the bit trimmed off the future seam allowance.)
Fabric Used: A nylon microfiber fabric I purchased from Joann many years ago. This fabric is difficult to work with--requires a Microtex needle since it is so densely woven--otherwise puckers. Doesn't ease. Difficult to press. But it works well with this pattern. I had trouble making the tab symmetrical with the fabric.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: As instructed, although I went ahead and sewed the seams rather than machine basting before fitting. After the fitting, I ended up tightening the arm a bit, both at the princess seam and the shoulder. I also needed more room at the waist.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I've been sewing more dresses than I can feasibly wear, unless I change my day-to-day dress style. But I do recommend this pattern. Because it is a Best of 2010 pattern, it obviously had appeal to others too.
Conclusion: A great simple sheath dress. Easy to fit.
