Pattern Description: Loose-fitting pullover dress with pockets and zippered jumpsuit. I was delighted to pay $.25 for this pattern in a thrift shop as it matched the fabric I had at home to reinvent a beloved dress from 30 years ago.
Pattern Sizing: L, XL
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Close but I made alterations
Were the instructions easy to follow? Didn't use them
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
It is a clone of a favorite dress from 30 years ago--print and all.
Fabric Used: 3 yds of Cotton floral print
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I changed the armholes using Butterick 5302 to make a cap sleeve rather than set in.
I also used self bias to finish the neckline. Sleeves and hem were serged and finished with a narrow hem.
Serged seam construction
Gathering done on the serger.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Probably not--with something this full and unfitted one is definitely enough. I love the fabric and wanted something that I can literally throw on to run to the store, etc. and that is cool in the summer heat. This is both.
I do recommend it to anyone wanting a step up from a nightgown or muumuu (sp?), especially my variation that has no set-in sleeves.
Conclusion: I am happy with the end product and happy to have a clone of my previous dress. This isn't a church or special event dress but it does have its place in the closet. I'll enjoy it.
