|Several years ago, my DD gave me a really comfy nightie for Mother's Day. When it came time to replace it, I couldn't find any in the stores so decided to copy my favourite nightie.|
This nightie was a simple sleeveless A-line style cut on the bias and finished with shoestring straps - the original nightie had adjustable straps, but I was happy to simply have fixed straps. The front and back neck edges were bound with satin bias.
The fabric was a length of soft, and very drapey satin. I found this fabric in the late '90's at a bargain price, so bought several metres with the intention of making nighties for my nieces one Christmas - well, that never happened, but I have previously used some of the fabric for myself.
As mentioned previously, the front and back are cut on the fold on the bias. I've used premade satin bias binding to finish the neck edges, underarms and form the straps. The back and front are joined with French seams. The nightie was machine hemmed with a 6mm double hem.
