|Unfortunately, this pattern is now Out of Print - such a shame as it is a great pattern. I previously reviewed this pattern in 2004, shortly after it was purchased. It's been some time since I sewed this top.|
The pattern is multi-sized - XS,S,M,Land XL designed for knits. There are two views - A crossover top with fitted midriff version and short sleeve and a mock wrap version with long sleeves. I won a lucky door prize last year at the AGM for our sewing guild. It was a lovely 1metre piece of rayon lycra in a very large scale abstract print. What to do!!! At 5'2" large and graphic doesn't work for me, but I absolutely loved the colours. I needed a pattern that would break up the print so I chose the first view from this pattern.
Being narrow shouldered, I traced a S at the shoulder, then graded through M at the waist an L at the hips. I added 2cm 'insurance' along the S/S - this a v-e-r-y fitted top and I ended up needing the full 2cm that I'd allowed.
If you look closely at the pictures on the pattern envelope, you'll notice this is quite a short top. I add 4cm to the length and while this is fine for me (I'm 5'2") any one taller, will definitely need to lengthen this pattern even more.
Having said all this, the top is very flattering.
I used a rayon/lycra knit for this top. It was stitched with a stretch needle using Gutterman thread and the seams overlocked (more for looks than necessity).
This is such an easy pattern to sew and always looks good no matter what fabric is used. If your able to locate a copy, grab it! Or if it's lurking at the back of your pattern draw, drag it out and give it any airing.
