I love quality table linen .... I don't know about the US and elsewhere, but here in Australia decent table linen will cost you your first born child! Hence I've taken to making my own.
Our dining room table, when extended is 2.25metres long x 1.25 metres wide. Since we're currently 'babysitting' DD's furniture while she travels, the table is open all the time to accommodate her chairs ... this has meant a need for more table cloths in this longer length.
The cloths are easy-peasy to make ... take the table length add a bit for overhang hem the ends and sides and you're done . What could be easier?
Fortunately, the fabrics I like for my cloths (damasks, jacquards, softer upholstery) all come in 150cm which is just wide enough to fit the table.
This fabric was an end of roll from a reputable upholsterer costing all of $5 for 3m. It was a simple task to hem the four edges. I intended making this cloth for my SIL, but when I saw how well the colour went with our chairs ... Oops!, well, I'm keeping this one. I have more ends of rolls, so SIL won't miss out.
Love these quick, but expensive looking projects.
