|Pattern Description: A Bloomer Costume and The Fashionable Dress from Which It was Made: Circa 1851-1853. this style of dress was part of the dress reform movement of the mid 19th century. |
Available in sizes 8-14, 16-20 and 22-26, with B, C & D cups
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
yes, considering I made it as skirt & bloomers, not a dress
Were the instructions easy to follow?
yes, although I ignored some of them and machine stitched everything I could.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
It's easy to understand & sew. I found the cup size bodice less useful for myself as I'm much further along the alphabet than D, though as I wanted only the skirt & bloomers just now, it didn't really matter.
a cotton with woven check of blue and red on white background. there's a tiny white flower pattern in some of the white squares.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made a skirt instead of using the bodice to make a dress. I also didn't line the bloomers as I want these to be cooler to wear.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I'm definitely thinking of sewing it again, and if you're looking for a pattern based on an existing garment from the era, this is a great find. I might even cartridge pleat the skirt if I have more time to do that.
Happy to have this done and ready to wear
