|Pattern Description: "the bess top has an easy fit that is designed to flatter a variety of body types. both shirt and tunic lengths have a subtle hi-lo hem, and the dress is designed to hit at the knee. all options feature pleated yoke formed by a wrap-around sleeve, and tunic and dress lengths include optional in-seam pockets. the neckline, sleeves, and hem (for shirt and tunic lengths) are all finished with jersey knit, a technique that gives a clean, easy finish, allowing for a well-stitched curve while providing stability."|
Pattern Sizing: Women's 2-20
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow? They were very clear and easy to follow. The yoke corner is tricky, but the instructions make it very simple to sew.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Likes - The yoke/sleeve is really unique and fun to sew. The pleat into the yoke is a pretty detail and adds a nice amount of bust ease. The neckline/hem finish with jersey is interesting and makes for a nice clean look, while still being pretty easy to do.
Fabric Used: Poly charmeuse and poly jersey, both from FabricMart
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The only thing I changed from the pattern was to do a plain hem on the bottom edge, rather than the jersey binding. I wanted the hem to be more flowy and I feared the jersey would stiffen it. Otherwise no changes. I typically make a score of fit adjustments (FBA, petite adjustment above the bust and swayback, to name the most typical), but I didn't have to make any adjustments at all to this. Partly that is due to the unfitted style, but also the front yoke/sleeve ends up being on the bias, which makes the sleeve comfortable and forgiving.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I've already made it twice and am considering the dress version! I do recommend it.
Conclusion: This is a great pattern for an easy wearing top. It sews up quickly but has interesting details. It's a great option for a woven tee to pair withe jeans, but also works with leggings and a pencil skirt. Very versatile!
