Misses’ pullover top with bodice and sleeve variations and optional ruffle details. Simplicity sewing pattern.
8-16 all in one envelope
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Thin cotton voile.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The pattern ended up looking just like on the envelope. I liked the way the envelope pattern looked, but not mine. How crazy is that? I made the top out of a thin cotton voile which is one of the recommended fabrics. I usually don't pay much attention to recommended fabrics and have been bitten by that. The fabric is just too crisp for this pattern. I think that it is fairly cute from the front, but the pleat in the back makes me look like I am pregnant and carrying on my back. The fabric was washed prior to cutting so I don't think it will relax after washing. I just don't like how this pattern hangs with this fabric.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I am trying to learn how to fit my body. I am finding that I have to make the shoulders a size 8 or it is too big in the neck and shoulders. I have to make a 12 from the bust down in a top and go to a 14 in the hip if it goes that low. I did not bother doing my usual adjustment of lowering the bust point since this top does not have bust darts. I would have added a smidgen of length, if I had of had enough fabric (which I did not). Once completed, I think the fit was OK except the armholes were not big enough. It felt like it came way too far up into my armpit. If I remember right before altering the pattern, making a 12 would have given more armhole depth. I must figure out next time how to keep the shoulders narrow while keeping the armhole depth.
The front has seaming that did not look great with a print. I decided to do a line of fine narrow zigzag in the same navy blue as the print using an edgestitch foot to guide me down the seam perfectly. I liked that treatment and will do that again.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I still think the envelope photo is cute. Though there is no photo of the back of the top. There must be some fabric somewhere or some cute body that would make this a cute blouse, but I'm not going to attempt it again.
