|Pattern Description: Semifitted, lined jacket has collar, collar band, shoulder pads, back yoke, forward shoulder seams, side panels, no side seams, welt pockets (inside), button tab, back vent, and two-piece sleeves|
I made view A.
Pattern Sizing: I made a sz 42 with adjustments
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes it did (probably because I copied the pattern envelope and used the same colour material!)
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes they were actually really good. Very similar to the RTW sewalong with interfacing and steps.
They do ask you to cut out 2 inside pocket linings but you only need one.
Fabric Used: Polyester coating. Its a thick very soft material.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made a couple of adjustments to fit. My husband is very broad across his shoulders so I added 2" to the upper back and a 2" bicep width adjustment.
Pattern wise, I added a back facing and a jump pleat to the back lining.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I might sew it again if my hubbie ever wants another winter coat and I would definitely recommend it. Its a very classic shape and sewed up beautifully.
Conclusion: I'm really happy with how this coat turned out. I had to make a couple of muslins and then still fiddled with the fit after I had started construction, but a lot of that is probably to do with the fact I've never sewed for my husband before (or any other men) so I was in uncharted fitting territory!
We both liked the navy version on the pattern envelope so I pretty much copied that to a tee.
Construction wise, I was very happy with the instructions. I normally follow the RTW sewalongwhenever I make coats/jackets but the instructions were very similar, lots of interfacing which really adds some structure to it and makes it hang nicely. Two piece sleeves and a collar band made it all sit nice too.
I liked the added touches of the back vent, button tabs at the front pockets and the welt pocket inside. I wish I'd made the front pockets a bit wider though as he can barely fit his hands in but I always joke he has bear paws instead of hands so normal sized hands are probably fine!
I have some more detail pics at my blog
