|Pattern Description: Lined coat has collar variations, princess seams, raised waist, side front pockets, and fold-back cuffs. A: flowers with button center. D: bows and knots.|
Pattern Sizing: CL 6-7-8
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? yes, and no. The basic style lines were exact and I decorated this as shown on the cover. I did make some changes to the buttons, buttonholes, and interior by adding facings.
Were the instructions easy to follow? very easy.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? the only thing I didn't like was that the lining extended all the way to the edges of the coat and that wouldn't work for this particular project. I particularly liked the ease of construction. The pattern was well drafted and all the edges matched up during sewing.
Fabric Used: Red corduroy, shell. Gray crepe, lining. Satin ribbon for decoration and black crepe for covered buttons.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added 2 buttons, 1 buttonhole, front facings, 3/4" length at the waist, 5 inches at the hem, and a fleece underlining. I changed the buttonholes to bound rather than machine made, hand stitched the coordinating buttonholes on the facing and re-spaced them to accommodate the added length at the waist. I shortened the lining and changed the hem to a 3/4" hem rather than the lining extending to the edge of the coat.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I would make it again, even without all the changes. It went together so smoothly that it didn't take as much time as I anticipated to complete the coat.
Conclusion: The pattern envelope said easy and they meant it. It's become her favorite coat and I can see making her several more in different fabrics and weights. The simple design and clean lines provide an excellent canvas for embellishment (even though I didn't make use of that and went with the envelope example).
