Pattern Description: Women's coat or jacket with collar variations.
Pattern Sizing: I cut the size that corresponded to my measurements and it was slightly too big. I ended up taking it in about 1/2 inch on each side. The sleeves, however turned out to be a little on the short side - it worked out fine, but didn't leave me much room for hemming so may want to measure before cutting the sleeves.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. I tend to struggle a bit when doing linings but I found the instructions for this one to be the most straight forward that I've seen.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The simple, classic cut & collar were what drew me to this pattern & my coat turned out exactly as I imagined it. I especially love the top stitching, which really intimidated me at first (I'm not known for sewing a nice straight line) - but turned out really nice. There is A LOT of top stitching (if you choose to do it) - I can't believe how much thread I burned through. I swear I changed out that bobbin half a dozen times at least!
Fabric Used: A cotton boucle that is probably more appropriate for suiting than for a coat. The weave is on the looser side, which besides making it a nightmare to work with, also made for a not very warm winter coat. I ended up interlining it (another new thing for me!) with some light-weight plaid that I had left over from PJs I made for my son (it's green with frogs on it, but no one will ever see it, lol). The actual lining is a brocade that I found and immediately thought 'coat lining for that red cotton boucle I have'.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The coat length I was going for was longer than the pattern jacket and shorter than the pattern coat...so I cut about 4 inches of the coat length to get it just above the knee.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will definitely sew this again though not right away (how many coats does a girl need?). This one is going in the stash as a TNT coat pattern. It is truly a joy to construct & has that classic cut that will make a lovely coat out of any fabric.
Conclusion: Great coat pattern, clear instructions with lots of tips. Really nice patterns for beginners wanting to take on a more challenging project. Very pleased with how this turned out.
