|This is a quick bag that I made today. I used the drop in lining method. I drew the design out on a piece of paper. The lining is a quilting cotton material and I love the sewing machine material. I love using a fun and interesting lining in bags and pockets. It is like having a secret. |
The outside of the bag is Chinese brocade in a lovely pink with dragonflies. I love dragonflies so I needed this material when I saw it. The handles were recycled from an old purse I found at a thrift store for 25 cents, to attach the handles I used a scrape of bias tape I had leftover and the black lace it from an old project. I did put a scrape of quilting batting between the lining and the body of the bag to give it structure.
The lining is made half an inch smaller than the body of the bag so it can take the weight of what is in the bag instead of pushing on the seam of the brocade. I used a zigzag stitch to reenforce the seams. I dropped the lining down into the body of the bag and folded over the top of each part and added the bias tape to hold the handles and lace straps to tie the bag closed. Then I stitch everything together with a zigzag stitch and then applied the lace around the top of the bag to hide any stitches and reenforces the handles and ties.
It is a pretty bag and feels so luxurious with the fabric. Perfect to go with the little black dress or dress up jeans.
