Pattern Description: Loose-fitting, pullover top has front extending into self-tie ends, bias neck binding and long sleeves. Flared skirt, above ankle (slightly longer at back) has elasticized waistband, yoke with back zipper closure, seaming variations, contrast applique and fabric trims, contrast upper and lower skirt sections, pockets, upper side panels (no side seams) and stitched, shaped hem.

I made both the top and the skirt.

Pattern Sizing: 6-22. I had the envelope that contained the 12-16. I made the skirt in the 12 and the top in the 16. Technically, the 12 is too big for my hips and the 16 is a bit large. (I don't know why I didn't make the 14.)

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I think so!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Sure.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Well, I love Koos van den Akker and I think this is one of his best! I've been meaning to make this pattern for years. The challenge I had was to mix prints - to use no solids at all. The top uses a striped ponte knit. The skirt uses 3 printed quilting cottons, with strips from the ponte knit.

Fabric Used: As I mentioned, the top is a striped ponte knit. The skirt uses 3 quilting cottons with stripes of the striped ponte knit.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: For the top, I greatly raised the huge boat neckline. I also narrowed the shoulders (typical for me). And I added 8" to the length of the ties - I do not have a small waist and need extra length.

The skirt was hecka long. I shortened this 4" (I am 5'5"). This was a non-trivial mental exercise to figure out. I posted, on my blog, instructions on how to shorten it. You really want to shorten it *before* cutting it out in fabric. It's a shaped hem and you don't really want to muck with it after the fact.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? YES, to both! I would love to have this great top in a few colors, though I would make the size 14 next time and maybe even the 12 after that.

If the skirt is too dramatic for you, make it in a single fabric and leave off the applique/snakes. It's a wonderful design and so much fun to make!

Conclusion: I love this outfit! I look forward to wearing it to some holiday events. It is OOP, but worth tracking down. The top, alone, is really fabulous and very cleverly designed.

Love it! This pattern has been on my list for years and I always thought it would be impossible to find matching trim, but you did an amazing job picking fabrics and trim. Bravo!

Utterly fab. One of my favorite Koos patterns. I'm happy to learn that I can pull out some of my quilting cottons for this. You look so great!

This is a real beauty! Looks great and makes me think that it could be a nice warm winter skirt.... If only I could have the eye for the print combo as good as yours!

Wonderful outfit. Spooky, about 30 minutes ago, I picked this pattern out of my stash and thought it could be this year's Christmas challenge. Thank you for blogging the shortening method - I am 5' 3" so will need that.
