I made modifications to the pattern to turn it into a strapless dress with maxi skirt. I chose View C of the dress because I like the sweetheart neckline. I used the underlining/lining bodice pieces instead of the shell piece because it had princess seams and was easier to construct.
I used size 6, A/B cup size.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I didn't use the instructions as it was quite easy to construct the bodice.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the sweet heart neckline and the gathered skirt.
Fabric Used: 2 meters of floral cotton.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
- No shoulder straps
- Lengthened skirt to 1 meter (floor length maxi)
- Took the centre back seam at the top by 4cm on each side! Big no-no, but it was too late for a proper adjustment
- Added handmade bust padding and bra cups to the bodice to give it for shape and structure
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I highly recommend this pattern as the bodice is very flattering. I am already working on another version of this dress, also a maxi dress. Also floral, hehe.
I think this pattern is a great project for a beginner as it is easy to construct (gotta love princess seams). Very versatile as it can be made into a casual dress or a formal gown, just by using different fabrics.
I have more photos on my blog and also links to the tutorials I used to make the bust padding and bra cups.
