The skirt is very nice but this is a beautiful photo of you! I'm sure you were a hit at the party.

Nice skirt!! The length is perfect, and so is the amount of the flare. I think that if the skirt was fuller, it would not lie as well and would swamp you.

I used to make a lot of faced pants in the 70's. I think my facings were about 2" wide. To finish my facings (a Vogue pattern that I regrettably discarded when I lost weight in the 80's but which looked a lot like the pant drawing ), I topstitched around the waistline about 1/4"-3/8". The facing stayed down and the look was nice. You might want to try this.

Another thing... You wanted more flare on the skirt. Since the skirt is a 6 gore skirt, I would just add 1/2" at the hem on each side of the gores tapering up to the hipline. This will add 6" to the hem width. If that is not enough for lighter weight fabrics you can repeat the process.

Patricia, that is excellent advice. I will try both those tips on the next version of this skirt that I am planning to make. I'm planning to use a light weight silk (almost sheer) with an underlining. This pattern has you understitch the waistband facing, but not topstitch. I think topstitching will help.
