That is beautiful fabric! I love it as a purse. Would it be possible to add some coordinating trim over the seams to hide the fraying and also reinforce them? Who knows, it could end up making a great looking bag even nicer!

Many purses are made using Timtex. I haven't used it yet but Amy Butler recommends it for her purses.

I am unfamiliar with the interfacing that you used, but a hefty interfacing combined with a hefty fabric usually turns into a wrestling match for me, too. I like something called Decor-bond (Deco-bond??) from JoAnn's, but not on a really heavy fabric. Once with burlap I used Peltex (like Timtex), and it was a wrestling match. The bag turned out great once I beat the Peltex into submission.
