I have used snaps in the pleats on the side to prevent everything from falling out of the bag. It has worked great for me....Great looking bag!

I've thought about making this bag, but your description of it's problem with the handle being off center and causing things to spill out gives me pause. Your bag is adorable, though. It looks like you did an excellent job of constructing it. Thanks for the review.
