This is incredible and stunning. Bravo to you for creating this amazing gown. Your friend and her daughter should be forever in awe of you. I've always thought this pattern was beautiful so I'm really happy you finally found time to review it.

Wow! This looks fabulous! Thank you so much for your review! I bought this pattern not realizing there was a foundation to be made. This seems like a dress I would want to start making about a year in advance! Awesome save on this. Talk about a challenge! The real challenge is when things don't go the way you thought they would. I hope they are are still your good friends!

I would make a poster of this dress and put it on my door so everyone could see how awesomely talented I was if I were you! Although it was hard I am sure you learned a lot and got to practice some great techniques. Congrats!

Beautiful results for all your work. Sounds like quite the experience, and sounds like even though pressed for time, you were determined to do it all well. I hope they really do appreciate all you have into this dress. BTW, I use extrafine pins in charmeuse all the time to no detriment.

Wauw - pretty dress, funniest review on PR? At least prom girl should be forever grateful to you - have you found out how to take advantage of that yet? I think she should do a nice spring cleaning of your house, cook dinner for your 20 dinner guests, do the serving and dishes afterwards...That's the least she could do after this dress....

Thank you everyone for the very nice comments. I have since moved 650 miles from my friend. We keep in touch, but I doubt her daughter will ever ask me to sew for her again. Too much weeping and wringing of hands. LOL

You've blown me away. The dress is a knockout - lovelier than the pattern envelope) and you deserve the Medal of Valor. If my DD ever wants a custom-made wedding dress, I'm giving her your name.[insert very big evil grin here]

Love, lovely dress. What a story. She must have had the prettiest dress. I use pins w/ charmeuse (also on in the s.a.) as well; it can help. Congratulations on such a nice dress, and what a wonderful thing to have done.

Despite the challenge, this dress looks amazing! Looks better than off-the-rack! I love the black charamuse, sometimes the simplest fabrics make the boldest staements!

Since this is almost a year after you first posted this, I thought I should explain that I decided to look at more of your reviews after seeing your entry in the knock-off contest. I ddin't comment there, but that one's a WOW also! WOW!!! Amazing I would have never guessed that girl is a 12 on the top, and a 16 on the bottom. She looks fabulous, and the fit is fantastic. I agree that the shoulders help with the proportions. What really got to me on this is that I went thru a similar experience with oldest dd. She asked me to make her prom dress a couple years ago, and I was flattered -- except that she asked me to make V2890. My reaction was similar to yours: waaaaay above my head!! But I thought if I started early enough I could meet the challenge. I wish I had been reading reviews, etc, and I wish I'd had the Susan Khalje's book, AND I wish I had read more of Summerset's blog, on fitting (not to mention had more common sense!) before I committed.
