This is incredible and stunning. Bravo to you for creating this amazing gown. Your friend and her daughter should be forever in awe of you. I've always thought this pattern was beautiful so I'm really happy you finally found time to review it.

That dress is stunning.

Wow! This looks fabulous! Thank you so much for your review! I bought this pattern not realizing there was a foundation to be made. This seems like a dress I would want to start making about a year in advance! Awesome save on this. Talk about a challenge! The real challenge is when things don't go the way you thought they would. I hope they are are still your good friends!
5/1/07 12:26 PM
I would make a poster of this dress and put it on my door so everyone could see how awesomely talented I was if I were you! Although it was hard I am sure you learned a lot and got to practice some great techniques. Congrats!

Wow, what an undertaking...and what a dress! Gorgeous! The end product is absolutely stunning. Great review too - thanks for sharing all the scary details!
5/1/07 12:43 PM
Beautiful results for all your work. Sounds like quite the experience, and sounds like even though pressed for time, you were determined to do it all well. I hope they really do appreciate all you have into this dress. BTW, I use extrafine pins in charmeuse all the time to no detriment.
5/1/07 12:57 PM
that is a GORGEOUS dress but as I can see from your review, not for the feint-hearted!

This is just beautiful - it suits your friend's daughter's figure perfectly. My congratulations on such a successful outcome to a really tricky project.

The dress is beautiful!
5/1/07 2:05 PM
What a stunner! Watch out though. Prom Girl will probably ask you to make her wedding dress someday.
5/1/07 2:59 PM
Wow this is fabulous.
5/1/07 3:09 PM
WOW! A beautiful dress with a perfect fit!
5/1/07 3:12 PM
Beautiful dress and a grateful recipient to boot- could you ask for more! Glorious job

Fabulous dress and review. Wow!
5/1/07 3:59 PM
Fabulous. Just Fabuloso"!

Wauw - pretty dress, funniest review on PR? At least prom girl should be forever grateful to you - have you found out how to take advantage of that yet? I think she should do a nice spring cleaning of your house, cook dinner for your 20 dinner guests, do the serving and dishes afterwards...That's the least she could do after this dress....
5/1/07 4:21 PM
Re-inforces my not wanting to sew for anyone else! But excellent review and dress ... well done for persevering :)
5/1/07 4:51 PM
WOW!! The dress is absolutely beautiful!! You did a wonderful job!!
5/1/07 5:02 PM
Thank you everyone for the very nice comments. I have since moved 650 miles from my friend. We keep in touch, but I doubt her daughter will ever ask me to sew for her again. Too much weeping and wringing of hands. LOL
5/1/07 5:50 PM
It's an amazing dress. Wow.
5/1/07 6:56 PM
Outstanding dress. You did a fantastic job. Congrats! No one will ever know you were in over your head. :)

Better than a designer dress. Absolutely gorgeous. I hope you treated yourself to something special after all your hard work. Great review!

Oh my goodness - what do I say. This is so good I think I am going to sound like one of the judges on Dancing with the Stars - you are beyond good!!
5/1/07 10:15 PM
You are a good friend. Brava! A stunning dress.
5/1/07 10:25 PM
Gorgeous work for a lovely girl.
5/1/07 11:27 PM
You've blown me away. The dress is a knockout - lovelier than the pattern envelope) and you deserve the Medal of Valor. If my DD ever wants a custom-made wedding dress, I'm giving her your name.[insert very big evil grin here]
5/1/07 11:37 PM
Wow! I guess we can say you are a great seamstress now! Really stunning! Great review as well.
5/2/07 0:26 AM
Well, you rose to the challenge! Prom girl certainly looked pretty (if not the prettiest). Well done.

What a spectacular dress on such a beautiful young woman. Bravo to you for taking on this challenge at any time...and then to do it on such a tight time schedule.
5/2/07 7:38 AM
Simply beautiful. Congratulations on successfully executing such a difficult dress. I loved your witty review. Sounds like you kept your sense of humor through the whole thing.
5/2/07 11:04 AM
Absolutely beautiful! You will be inextricably tied to her memories of her prom. She'll probably want you to do her wedding dress!

Fabulous job and great review! You came through like a trouper, despite all the difficulties. And the end result is just Bee-Yoo-Tee-Ful!
5/2/07 1:59 PM
Wow, congrats to you for surviving that! I have this pattern just to gaze at, and I'm glad someone got to wear it!
5/2/07 6:26 PM
Absolutely enchanting. She looked beautiful in it. Your detail work and quality of construction is apparent in how it drapes... and how it stays where it is supposed. Bravo!

Wow!!!! That is one gorgeous dress you have made. That was definitely a challenge and I imagine it was great to see the end results. You are very talented. Enjoyed reading your review.

Love, lovely dress. What a story. She must have had the prettiest dress. I use pins w/ charmeuse (also on in the s.a.) as well; it can help. Congratulations on such a nice dress, and what a wonderful thing to have done.
5/9/07 6:10 AM
woo-hoo! wonderful - your friends daughter looks gorgeous in it... she should clean your house forever now for such a beautiful garment ;) Kudos to you!

Despite the challenge, this dress looks amazing! Looks better than off-the-rack! I love the black charamuse, sometimes the simplest fabrics make the boldest staements!
5/30/07 1:14 PM
The dress is stunning and your review is both informative and funny. I found myself laughing and remembering similar situations I've been in. Thanks for sharing!

the dress is so beautiful, and you totally pay off your hard work

Since this is almost a year after you first posted this, I thought I should explain that I decided to look at more of your reviews after seeing your entry in the knock-off contest. I ddin't comment there, but that one's a WOW also! WOW!!! Amazing I would have never guessed that girl is a 12 on the top, and a 16 on the bottom. She looks fabulous, and the fit is fantastic. I agree that the shoulders help with the proportions. What really got to me on this is that I went thru a similar experience with oldest dd. She asked me to make her prom dress a couple years ago, and I was flattered -- except that she asked me to make V2890. My reaction was similar to yours: waaaaay above my head!! But I thought if I started early enough I could meet the challenge. I wish I had been reading reviews, etc, and I wish I'd had the Susan Khalje's book, AND I wish I had read more of Summerset's blog, on fitting (not to mention had more common sense!) before I committed.
