Nice job on your pants. I don't like that method of elastic/drawstring either. I usually just do elastic and add the drawstring for looks (if I get ambitious).

I always replace with elastic too - and add drawstring for looks if I want to. These look cozy!

I made this pattern and changed the drawstring to an elastic waist. There is no difference between the back waist length and the front waist length, so DH found they always felt like they were on backwards. In the 2nd pair, I added 3" to the back waist, tapering to nothing at the side seams, and he finds them more comfortable.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Tourist, I will try that solution next time! I plan to make another pair soon.
