| Pattern Description: All Views:Specifically designed to fit comfortably under suit jackets, this close fitting top features a narrow raglan sleeve with darted shoulder, semi-squared off boat neckline, side shaping and 3 sleeve options: long, cap and three quarter length. Sewing time approx. 45 minutes.
Pattern Sizing: xxs-xxl. I used a s.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? I can't decide. View C on the pattern envelopes doesn't appear to have a boat neckline in my opinion. Views A + B do, but they're much looser in the bodice than my experiment. Perhaps I could up a size? But I do like a snug fit.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Incredibly so. I've made this particular pattern sooo many times now, I don't need to follow the instructions. For a newbie, I would suggest serging the raw edges of the dart because you won't be able to do that later easily.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? There's nothing to like particularly, although that boat neckline can feel a bit tight, like you're ready to choke or drown. I can't decide which. I should probably draft a slight lower neckline. Another thing: mark the front and back and then put a label in afterwards inside the neckline for the back because both sides look remarkably alike...and if you're like me, you will be putting that top on both ways before you decide which one belongs where.
Even on this top, I'm not certain I've got the label in the right spot. On some days, I still feel like I've got it on wrong!
Fabric Used: A lovely brown-and-turquoise galloon-edge stretch lace remnant from Vogue Fabrics. Those scalloped edges made this top suuuuuper-fast! I didn't have to hem the sleeves or the bottom. I highly recommend using stretch lace with finished edges for this pattern. You will have a boutiquey top without the pricetag. Note: I didn't line this top, but in hindsight, I think I should have. Why? The T has a tendency to ride up, and it would be far warmer with a lining. I'd simply use an inexpensive coffee-colored mesh in the bodice, not the sleeves. Right now, I have to wear a Victoria's Secret bra that "disappears" underneath. Despite some of these flaws, I still wear this t-shirt a lot. It's a great basic underneath jackets. I plan to sew more once I stock up on more stretch lace with galloon-edges. Spandex House, here I come! (Addendum: Suggested Fabric: All views, for lightweight stretch knit, stretch velour or stretch lace with good drape. Note: 4 inches of fabric should stretch at least 1 1/2 inches along crosswise grain. Allow extra fabric for shrinkage and lengthening.)
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I lengthened the top by about two inches so I wouldn't be flashing my belly button.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I have and I will. I've stitched probably a four or five of these tops, some of them more wearable than others. This particular version, plus another burgundy stretch lace top which I'll show soon, is the best to date. I highly recommend this to others, especially to new sewists.
Conclusion: A great starter pattern and woooonderful if you've got small shoulders like I do. You won't have to make any adjustments on the raglan sleeves.

Another update:
* This latest version is from a Vogue Fabrics remmant. It was Super-easy since I used all the scallops and finished edges for the hem. The neckline was the trickiest especially since I was using the twin-needles and boy those two needles just want to suck fabric down into the bobbin area. To prevent any fighting between the sharp needles and the soft, fragile fabric, I used Wash-Away Solvy at the neckline. I also used Hancock's Fabric Spray Stabilizer. This stuff is great for those of you entering the Silk contest. Spray silk, sew, wash out, upload a picture of that baby!

Under the "like/dislike" category, though, you say "There's nothing to like particularly"--was this a typo, or are you saying that even though it's easy to use so you use it a lot, there's nothing particularly remarkable about the pattern? | | * * * | | lilyofthevalley | 3/27/08 | The fabric and how you've used it is positively inspired!
