I made the handbag version of this bag a month or so ago. I used the medium weight deco fabric from Jo-Ann's. The top part is stripes and the body of the bag is toile. I did interface the top of the bag but when I use it it kinda flops. The other disappointing thing to me is that the bag is not very roomy at all so I can't carry everything I would like and, because of that, it gets and will get very little use. It is quite cute, though, and yours looks great!
