Please don't estimate the slimming effect of a narrow-shaped skirt on you. Make a test skirt out of muslin and try it on. Muslin is not expensive, you can rip out(you are a rip out expert now, ha-ha!) and reuse the zipper and you don't have to finish the muslin to decide if you like the style. Just sew the basic seams, back detail, zipper, stay stitch the waist and cut the hem at the hemline. That should be more than enough to test the look.
