Actually it's a mind-boggling mystery why Burda is still putting facings in its instructions for knit. Take a look at any RTW, you'll see there never is any excuse for it. So in the future just ignore them :-). Take a look at Marcy Tilton's " Easy Guide to Sewing Tops and T-Shirts" for instance and you'll never look back.
