| Pattern Description: Misses' close-fitting vests have side panels, stand-up collar, armhole bindings and forward shoulder seams. View A has front zipper opening, front pockets, and side panels and armhole bindings are from contrast fabric. View B pullover has zipper in collar.
ETA: I used this pattern again for a fleece vest. No fit changes. Blog post with details here.
Pattern Sizing: XS - XL I made size S.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Somewhat, but with a pretty different fabric.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, good instructions, as always from Kwik Sew.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I really like the side panels and forward shoulder seam. No dislikes.
Fabric Used: Faux shearling. My MIL gave me this fabric. She had tried making a vest out of it for my SIL a couple of years ago. She got pretty frustrated with it (her machine didn't like it), put it away for awhile and recently gave it to me. She had cut out the front and back pieces from a different pattern and I was able to selvage those with this pattern. My plan was to make this for my SIL, but I think going up a size would be better for her. This one is pretty snug on me and it would be really difficult to wear it over a sweater. There is enough fabric left to make another. So, lucky me, I get to keep this one.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I used lapped seams except for the neck/collar. That seam I bound with a bias strip. I also bound the inside of the zipper. I cut off the hem allowance and left the bottom edge raw. I cut the collar in half and left the top edge raw. Armholes were also left raw. I did not trim off any seam allowance there.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will likely sew another exactly like this one for my SIL and I think I would like to try it out of fleece, too.
Conclusion: I think this is a great vest pattern with a good fit and flattering seam lines.

Nice touch! | | * * * | | Annette1 | 1/23/09 | VERY NICE! This vest looks great on you. It's very flattering. I like your design elements that you've incorporated to work with this fabric. | | * * * | | donna mel | 1/23/09 | i LOVE your vest! its really nice in the (faux) shearling. you were so smart to cover the zipper seam. i solved this by lining my vest (which was fleece), but that made it fairly bulky. i also love what you did with the collar...letting the fuzzy side show by not folding the fabric. i'm going to make an exact copy...hope you don't mind!! | | * * * | |
