| August 10, 2009 Update
I am updating this with the boy version. I hadn't realized there was such a difference between the boy and girl underwear. I mean, of course it makes sense, but I hadn't looked at it. The girl underpants have a crotch lining whereas the boy underwear has a functional double layer fly. This pattern is fantastic. I just figured you guys would want to see the other version too. I made these in a size six because he is five and the size four would have been too small. Front and back. I added a tag to the back but not a size label so Mr. Type-A is having a hard time with that. He hates it when he gets the lines on his hips from the too small underwear. He has taken to checking the labels and won't wear things that are labelled 2T or 3T (sister undies). I'm sure he'll get over that. After all, they have bugs on them.

Pattern Description:
Children's underwear pattern for boys and girls. Girls' pattern has panty lining while boys has double layered fly opening. I made the girl version for all four. These are from an Etsy seller called that*darn*kat. She does not currently have any patterns in her Etsy store.
Pattern Sizing:
Kids' sizes: 2-4-6-8. I made size 4 for my three old girls.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, these look exacly like the picture.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were great. This whole pattern comes as a .pdf and the pattern directions come as part of the file. They are several pages long and include written directions and step by step pictures.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love that it's so easy and the fit is fantastic. The underpants do not use elastic. Instead they rely on the cotton/lycra knit used in the waistband to keep everything up. No dislikes.
Fabric Used:
I used fabric remnants. You need two main pieces for the underwear and three strips for the waist and leg openings. The fabric that looks black is a dark purple. I added embroidery to the butts of two of the pairs. It's cute.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
I didn't topstitch like I was supposed to. Bad Dawn. If it's problem, I'll do the next time I make this pattern. I'll be making this quite a bit I think. I'm in the midst of potty training right now and it's not going so well.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yep and yup. It's a great pattern and it's super useful. Well, if you're a mom and if you want to make underwear.
Pictures Front, back with embroidery, panty lining, close-up of heart embroidery and star embroidery, and inside showing variegated thread. | *LOGIN to add a comment to this review *Only registered members can post comments to the reviews. My boys would love to get to pick their own fabric! | | * * * | | li'l miss muffett | 8/11/09 | Oh thank you for reviewing these! I have this pattern but totally forgot. Dur! Yours turned out so cute and I love that they use small bits of fabric too. | | * * * | | Steph A | 8/20/09 | In answer to Lynn67, you don't need a serger at all. I've got one, but I ended up just using my sewing machine. The pair I made turned out great, and it was so easy too! | | * * * | | craftygamma | 11/18/09 | Too cute for words! You have inspired me to order the pattern, which I just did. I have 2 grandbabies to sew them for & lots of knit scraps from their PJ's & nightgowns. There are some wonderfully soft cotton knit fabrics available now in a very good weight. | | * * * | |
