Pattern Description: Don't know, don't have the pattern envelope with me and i'm too lazy to get it.

Pattern Sizing:6-22

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?Yes
Full Length view. Thanks Hubby!!

Were the instructions easy to follow?Yes. They are excellent. And the lined bodice and back are really well drafted, nice and RTW like.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
No dislikes!
Very simple pattern to sew up.

Fabric Used:Jersey from Gorgeous Things. She said it was a limited quanitity, designer print.
I bought it in the Fall and for a while I was looking at it thinking, what the heck was I thinking? Then I was going to do Simplicity 3775. And suddenly 3503 popped in my mind, I have no idea why. I didn't even own the pattern. I was thinking about Cidell's version. I went down and bought the pattern, full price BTW, and sewed it till 2AM for anniversary dinner the next day.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
Important: I am a 10 in the Big Four grading out to 12-14 for hips. I cut this a straight 10. The halter top, and neckline fit perfectly. Zero gaposis. As for the back gaping troubles that others had, I thought Cidell's suggestion to cut the elastic to the smaller size for the back piece was ingenious. I went a step further because I really wanted the back to hug tightly. I cut the bodice back piece to an 8 and cut the elastic to the 6 size on the elastic guide. I used size 1/2" elastic instead of 1/4". I added 1/4" to the top of the bodice back piece to accomodate the wider elastic in the casing that is made by folding down the top of the back bodice piece. I totally forgot to take a picture of the back. But I wore a sturdy strapless bra and it didn't show at all. The dress holds in place all over your body really well.

I agree with the others, I would self-line the bodice at least. Tricot would show even with understitching.

Omitted pockets.

Hem notes:Because of the glam nature of the dress I couldn't stand to have a coverstitched hem on this knit. I wanted a blind hem. I practiced for 2 hours on my serger to use the blind hem foot....just couldn't do it.
Finally I used my sewing machine and blind hem foot, decreased the pressor foot setting and the machine sewed it!!!!! I have no idea how or why. The hem was not stabilized ( i was too lazy at 12AM). I think this particular knit was pretty sturdy?? and maybe that's why it went ok. No stretching out of hem, no pushing forward of the layer on top. Incredible and lucky. I thought I was going to be handstitching in the car on the way to Carmel.
Any thoughts on blind hems in knits? Is it done? Does expensive RTW have a topstitched hem on knits? Any who..........back to the review.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes and yes.

Conclusion: My friend said I am supposed to call this a "towny" dress, not the maxi dress...Have you heard of that? As if "maxi" dress is passe or something.

Anniversary Dinner

And no, my husband is not one for dressing up BTW........he's a total surfer.

nicegirl 6/2/09Very pretty! I don't know what hem finishes are used on high end RTW knits, but on medium end it is often a coverstitch or even just a raw edge.

CypGrl 6/2/09Bet that this review will help sell a ~lot~ of Simplicity 3503s. Hope they are on sale somewhere this week -- or that I already have it in stash -- even better! Just checked -- it is 3502 that I have. Oh so close...

MelissaB in WA 6/2/09That turned out beautifullly! I had that pattern in my cart the other day and remembered our "no big 4" rule and put it back - now I'm mad I did. You look gorgeous - happy anniversary! :-)

Leslie in Austin 6/2/09Maybe he figures it doesn't matter what he looks like b/c no one will even notice him when you're on his arm. Fab-u-lous.

Amanda S. 6/2/09Great dress, Cindy. I love the maxi trend. When I will get around to it, I'm not sure. Have you ever used clear thread? I've seen it but not tried it. Maybe you could use that for future hems and it wouldn't show since it's clear.
* * *
Nancywin 6/2/09This looks great, Cindy. Definitely worth your late night sewing spree!
* * *
DorothyK 6/2/09Perfect choice for your anniversary dinner. You look fantastic. So what's in the box?

Deepika 6/2/09Cindy, this dress is smashing on you!

Allie in Hong Kong 6/3/09This looks absolutely fantastic on you. Usually things I sew at 2am are disasters, clearly this is not the case for you!
* * *
Christina Sonja 6/3/09Look at you! You are such a California girl in that hot dress (I still call it a maxi dress as I haven't heard of towny dress - I'm probably behind). Hope you had a great trip :)
* * *
Leora 6/3/09Very pretty!

bdeger 6/3/09You look fabulous! Towny dress? I hadn't heard that term. Of course, by the time I get around to the idea of a Towny / Maxi dress in my wardrobe, the trend itself be be passe!

jaeng 6/3/09Another fabulous dress from this pattern. I juse saw Erica B.'s version. Both of you look great and make me want a maxi dress instantly.
* * *
LindsayT 6/3/09Très glam, you! On better RTW hems, it's anything goes these days. Some designers show no hem at all with knits, just a raw edge. Works for me!
* * *
Markie1 6/3/09Cindy-You look gorgeous in that dress! Now I have to make it, don't I? Your review was so helpful, I will be referring to it again soon!
* * *
2BSewing 6/3/09Gorgeous! Perfect fabric and fit. This pattern was made for you. What a coincidence that I happen to have this pattern out on my SM table. Thank you for the sizing and elastic tips. :)

* * *
Mahler 6/3/09Your husband most feel so proud to walk around with a gorgeously dress and beautiful woman. This dress is amazing on you. Happy anniversary!
* * *
Cidell 6/3/09I've also heard 'goddess'. You look all beachy and sexy! I'm so glad it worked well for you. And you're right, it's a good idea to use a wider strip of elastic. GREAT job!! Woo hoo!
* * *
Kathi Rank 6/3/09Sounds like you made good use of the experience of others and wound up with a great looking dress.....we have to love PR! Thanks for the review.
* * *
Sara The Slayer 6/5/09You are WEARIN that dress. I love it. I am about to sew it, was looking for tips. A lot said it was too big...but you said it sizes true on top but you did smallen it in the back...thanks for the detail on that.
* * *
RobinMCPA 6/10/09Love how this looks on you!!! This is on my list of things to sew very soon, so I especially appreciate the info on the back gaposis!! I experienced that recently on S2580 - next time I will cut the back piece a size smaller.
* * *
RobinMCPA 6/10/09Forgot to say, I've added you to my fave reviewers list - and I have not heard of that "towny dress" thing. And on the knits, I see at least medium end knits always finished with coverstitch. Which is why I LOVE my Janome 900CP, which I use for everything.

whirrclunk 6/11/09What a great dress! And such a good fit!
* * *
