A skirt was not an unreasonable beginning at all!:) You are doing great! You are already asking/analyzing all the things you should be when you are a beginner. Bravo for posting and very helpful review for this book. I have it. I love the wonderful brown/gold print you chose and I think the skirt is really cute.

I have this book, but haven't ventured in to drafting my own skirt. Good for you! I like them both.

Looks like you have made a good beginning. The important thing is to keep trying. You might put together a list of the issues that bother you with the skirts yo uhave made so far and then post photos with your list in the beginners forum and ask for some feedback with how to get from where you are to where you would like to be. A softer drapier fabric might help too.
