| ETA: I wore this bra all evening yesterday and all morning today. I have to say it is super comfortable. Sometimes bras dig into my ribcage, but this one does not. Also, on some bras, the wires seem to want to move down and not stay where they belong. THis one has "stay put" perfectly. Can you tell I'm very pleased?
Some of you asked about my regular sizing. The reason I want to make a bra is because I have a terrible time with regular sizing getting it to fit right. My Fantasie bras are 32DD and they fit me better than any other bra. I have a Wacaol bra that is a 34DD and it fits well too. Victoria Secret, I wear a 34DD, but they tend to ride up in the back, dig into my ribcage, and be a bit loose in the upper cup.
The next time I make this bra, I will narrow the upper bridge just slightly. Maybe scant 1/4 inch at the top only.

Wow! I can't believe I actually made a bra. And even better, it actually fits. I used the measurement guide on the Kwik Sew guide to determine which size to make and followed that.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, I think the line drawings don't do it justice either.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were VERY good. I have never made a bra before and was worried that it would be very complicated. The instructions were very straight forward and clear. I followed them step by step.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? First of all, it came in my size. I also wanted a demi-cup bra that could be made plain or with lace.
Fabric Used: Here's where it gets difficult. I had to order everything on line since NONE of the items were available at my local fabric stores. You need:
tricot
Powernet
lace and sheer tricot (if you're making the lace view)
plush elastic in two widths (depending on your size)
hook and eye tape, rings, sliders. underwires
I ordered these things from Sew Sassy
Oh, I was able to get thread and knit interfacing locally LOL!
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: The only change I made was to add a little bow to the front! Oh, the pattern gives instructions to make a casing for the under-wires. I used pre-purchased "channeling" I cut a 34D according to pattern sizing, and although that is not my usual RTW size, it fits perfectly.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Absolutely on both counts. I usually have to order my bras from Figleaves (it's a great website NAYY) but often end up paying $50-80 for a bra. I spent less than half of that to make this bra and have enough fabric and findings left over to make several more! I really want to find some great fabrics and laces to make more. back closure
Conclusion:
I've wanted to make a bra for over a year and acutally ordered the materials to make this last summer, but never got around to it. Sigrid started a lingerie sew along and this prompted me to give it a shot. I was so worried that I would have to read a lot of books in order to "do it right". Really and truly, this pattern had all of the information I needed.
If you want to give bra making a try, I'd highly recommend this pattern. The instructions are all you need and the way the layout is set up, it's very easy to find which pattern pieces to use.
This bra seems very comfortable, but I"ve only worn it a short time. I will wear it all day tomorrow, and hopefully I will love it just as much!

Great incentive. | | * * * | | GoSewGirl | 6/9/09 | This bra looks lovely and very RTW! I'm curious to know what your RTW size is in comparison to the Kwik Sew sizing though, as you mention you sewed a different size than your RTW size. | | * * * | | Renren | 6/9/09 | So nice and the pink bow is the perfect touch. Thanks for sourcing your materials! I, too, am curious about how your regular size measures up to Kwik Sew's sizing. | | * * * | | Jolet | 6/9/09 | It looks wonderful. I always admire people who can make lingerie. I don't have the patience for it. Great job! | | * * * | | Peggy L | 6/9/09 | Amazing!!! | | * * * | | grannytobe | 6/9/09 | Wonderful review and beautiful job!! | | * * * | | Michele Lommasson | 6/9/09 | Thank you for the review. I am the same size you are and hate buying rtw bras. I did attend a custom workshop, and it was great, but the resulting bra had a retro shaping. . . I never got around to reshaping the cup.
I am going to go out and buy this as soon as possible.
