| Pattern Description: This book comes with "master patterns" - templates for basic garments that can be sewn as-is, embellished, altered, or taken to the next level. They are great for beginners but I've used them for over a decade.
Pattern Sizing: XS (just beyond toddler) to XL (about a size 16)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, except for the intended changes
Were the instructions easy to follow? Absolutely
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love these patterns - they are a great basic beginning to whatever my mind can dream up.
Fabric Used: Cotton knit with lycra for the top, with jersey knit for the piecing; denim for the pants
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I added a fly on the pants, button holes to bring the elastic to the outside for the cool buckle, pockets on the side of the pants, one straight with a flap, one diagonally with a working zipper. On the top, I pieced stripes on the upper half of the shirt, then embellished with Silk Screening from Marcy Tilton and embroidery from Urban Threads. Both the embroidery that is on top of the silk screening and the embroidery on the lower right of the shirt wrap around to the back of the shirt. The reason I pieced the stripes, is that I left the raw edge, just below the double needle stitching, exposed so it will curl and show more when I wash the shirt. I saw this on a rtw shirt and wanted to copy the effect.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I have recommended this pattern book to many and will continue to sew them until forever. There are not a lot of pattern choices for boys (beyond toddlers) and these have helped me sew for my boys well into the teen years.
Conclusion: I love these patterns as a foundation. My boys like all the doodads I can put on their stuff and if it looks rtw then they are happy.
