Pattern Description: Misses Dresses: Pull-over dresses have V-neckline, short raglan sleeves and empire waist. Neckline, sleeves and waist are gathered with elastic in casings. View A dress is made from three contrast fabrics and has wide ruffle on bottom edge.

Pattern Sizing: XS-S-M-L-XL I made a Large

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, very. But Kwik Sew is known for that.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The pattern itself is great. I just don't like all the warnings that tell you to only cut one size and not to mix and match sizes. What's up with that?

Fabric Used: Poly Knit (as per my burn test). It was on the mystery table for 70% off so I paid $2.50/meter. However this is what the pattern calls for:

Designed for lightweight woven and knit fabrics.

Suggested Fabrics: Gauze, lawn, single knit, matte jersey, crepe, georgette, batiste, rayon & blends, silk, silk-like fabrics.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I finished the hem with a 3 thread rolled stitch on my serger. I hemmed this dress with my coverstitch at first but it ended up looking too chunky.

This pattern calls for a woven or knit. This is my muslin for my Ugly Fabric Contest entry, which is a woven. See it here. So I decided to make it in a knit knowing that most likely I would be able to wear it even if the fit was not quite right.

By looking at the pattern I suspected that I would have to add length to the top over my 38DD's if I made it out of a woven. And I would have to alter the top to be less plunging. It was true. This is my husbands all time favorite dress on me. (photo alert! Do not open this link if you do not like clevage!) I wonder why? I will alter the ugly fabric woven dress to be more modest so I can wear that dress to drop off and pick up my kids from their school.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes I will. I think this is the most comfortable dress I have ever worn. And...It has a rather large WOW factor if you are well endowed.

Conclusion: This was a great beginner pattern for me because with all the gathering by the elastic I knew I would not have to do a FBA which I am not yet ready to tackle. It is really comfortable and does a pretty good job of hiding my super squishy muffin top while drawing attention to my better assets.

Here is a not very good photo of the back of the dress. I am hoping I don't normally look so heavy from behind (at least that is what I keep telling myself). Back

Sherril Miller 6/12/09I'm all for a dress that hides the ugly and emphasizes the pretty! Very nice dress and such a pretty color.

vsmom 6/12/09You did a wonderful job on this dress. It looks great on you.

AquariJenn 6/12/09Cute dress. I'm contemplating this for my maxi dress. How many pattern pieces does this have? I'm just wondering if the bodice and skirt are separate pieces or all one. Thanks for the review!

nglalala 6/12/09It looks very nice on you! I love the color too!

Time4me 6/12/09AquariJenn, The pattern has 4 pieces. The bottom is cut two on fold and sew up sides. The top front is two pieces and the top back is one piece (I cut it in two because I forgot to cut on fold). Then the raglan sleeves are cut 2 on fold. That means top and bottom are separate pieces. HTH

Izzie 6/12/09Nice dress! I'm the same size bust as you, so this review is very helpful. I look forward to seeing how it turns out with your "ugly" fabric...I think it will look awesome.

Sew tell me 6/12/09Great dress. I'm glad you posted a review of this. It's been sitting on my table for a minute. I too was concerned about the low cut v-neck.

lyrae 6/13/09I love this colour and your dress is inspiring me to finally make something in it.

heathercampbell29 6/13/09Great dress! So no FBA on this? not even to lengthen the bodice so that the elastic was under the girls? I might have to try this one out. It's nice to see that peasant style with a v-neck, it's really flattering. I'm going to put this one on my to do list. Thanks for the review!

Blusternfluster 6/15/09Double post
* * *
Blusternfluster 6/15/09heathercampbell29, This dress was made with a knit so I think it stretched a bit so the elastic was under the girls just fine. In my second version with a woven I did add length to the front bodice and it was needed. That version is my entry for the Ugly Fabric Contest and I have it almost fully made but I am not happy with it so I am going to change it. I will write a review and post photos and my plans for changing it so you can see what I don't like. Basically, I don't like my all over print for the whole dress (well what did I expect, it is an ugly fabric!).
* * *
Blusternfluster 6/15/09Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I have just started sewing for myself and am enjoying it immensely. I am learning so much from all the reviews and the boards. Too bad there is not enough time in the day :-)
