| I've already written a detailed review of this blouse before but I've made a few interesting changes in this version so I decided to write a new review. Plus it's my first WHITE Shirt! Cidell, are you reading??? This is for you!
Fabric Used: Hankyweight Linen from Fabric.com. This stuff is gorgeous. I loved working with this fabric! I also bought maroon in the same weight which will also eventually become a shirt.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: Since I've already altered this pattern to fit me, I figured it makes sense to make more but I didn't really want this to look EXACTLY like the other one so I decided to do things slightly differently. Granted they are not major changes but I am still very excited.
a)I Topstitched using a wing needle. What that does is, creates this really pretty heirloom type stitch. I played with the needle and the decorative stitches in various widths and lengths until I was satisfied with the one I liked. I ended up using the honeycomb stitch. I also did not finish the raw edges inside because I figured the stitching will take care of it.
Wing Needle: Looks like a needle with a wing. Its easily available in Joann fabrics. It works better in a looser weave fabric so it's a natural choice for linen. Practice before you use it in your fabric.
b) Another change I did was to omit the collar and just use the collar stand. It saved me some time too . However when I tried the shirt on, the stand closed up on its own and I didnt quite like the look. So on a friend's (Eme) suggestion, I pressed it over a seam roll to give it the "soft fold" so it would fall away from the neck.
My friend Donna, helped me neaten the collar stitches. Because, the fabric was plain, every little flaw would show and my hand stitching was ahem.. a little not up to the mark. What would I do without my friends!!!
The buttons for this shirt came from Joann. They do look a little retro which compliments the heirloom stitching. Needless to say, I am quite happy with this shirt. And with this shirt, I finally give this pattern a rest. I don't think I could deal with any more of the bib-front shirts.
