| Edited 9/7/09 to add eggplant cotton/lycra version pics: Eggplant front Eggplant sleeve hem serged
**note** I had issues with hemming my first knit version as the hems kept turning up. This time I increased the hem allowance from 1/2 in. to 1.5 in. and they are lying much better.
Pattern Description:
From the KS website:
"FABRICS: Designed for lightweight knit and woven fabrics.

Pull-over tunic and top have raglan sleeves, round neckline with front and sleeves gathered to neckband, and sleeves have elastic in casings at bottom edges. View A sleeves fit below elbow and View B sleeves above elbow."
Pattern Sizing:
1X-4X
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Like--thick pattern paper for durability, easy to understand directions, great for a beginner who is afraid of inset sleeves, can be for woven or knits.
Dislike--the pattern did not suggest staying the neckline. I had to redo the neck in a smaller size because of gaping issues.
Fabric Used:
90% cotton/10% lycra knit from Fabric.com.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
I always have to increase bicep width, waist width and hip width to larger than the pattern. The pattern says not to combine sizes, but I have to do it or nothing would fit correctly.
I used the 3X, with my personal additional alterations. My high bust is a 22 while my hips are 5X-6X. At first I used the 3X neck but it gaped terribly on me My 3X neckline; I also used self-facing instead of interfacing. Ripped it all out (ugg!) and tried the 1X. Turned out much better! Consider using smaller neck if you are smaller on top. For this pattern, the gathering of the front and raglan sleeves should fit any size neck piece, at least it worked for me.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would definitely recommend this pattern for plus sizes who want similar RTW tops. There are only 4 pattern pieces so it is very easy to cut as well as sew. Now that I know how to alter for my own body type, I should be able to whip one out in one day! Great wardrobe builder for me; definitely a TNT. Love the fact it is for wovens as well as knits.
Conclusion:
This pattern was the closest to looking like the RTW tops I've seen in 2009 that are popular. I'm very please with the results. I don't have a serger so I used a walking foot with a stretchy zigzag, which worked out very well!
***WIP and all I need to finish is hemming.
Upturned hem
***WIP now all I need is to rehem so that it doesn't turn up. 8/10/09
***I didn't rehem, just cut some of the extra hem hanging from inside and that helped a lot.

Pattern with more than 5 reviews! << Previous Review Next Review >> | Reader Comments | | Annette1 | 8/8/09 | Congratulations on your first review! Okay, work in progress, but it's close enough. :o) Great idea, going down a size in the neckline (two sizes, actually)! I often have to do the same thing when making something with a neckline similar to this. (Wish I'd had sense enough to do it on my last project.) Can't wait to see your final top! It'll be worth having to get out the EVEEEEEEEL seam ripper! :o) | | * * * | | jilly cooper | 8/9/09 | Congrats on 1st review. Wow you did this without a serger - good on you. Thank you for a pattern that has only 4 pieces and I might even consider buying this pattern to make for friends. :) | | * * * | | michellep74 | 8/9/09 | Congrats on our first review!
